ORANGE BOX
The Orange Box is a MFA student run gallery that is under the umbrella of PLAySPACE Gallery CCA. During the 2017-2018 school year, it hosts a multitude of events including artist showcases, documentary film screenings, workshops, poetry readings, and community building events.
Through exhibitions and events at the Orange Box, Amanda Rush and Chloe Ghillani explore themes ranging from safe spaces to cultural identity to formal elements within art making and practice. Their goal is to create a collaborative environment, which allows artists and audiences to experience profound understanding, and compassion. The artists they have chosen represent a multitude of interests; which include expressing present-day anxieties, emotions, and personal journeys.
At the core of Amanda Rush’s practice are societal concerns that emphasize cultural, traditional, and gender issues. She draws creative stimulus and ethical consternation from highly charged gender roles, the feminine ideal, and contemporary advertising. She typically creates within the realms of photography, performance, and installation pieces.
Chloe Ghillani’s work hints on current societal issues, such as environmental, that many people choose to ignore. Utilizing materials sourced from pop-up advertisements on websites such as Amazon, she creates installations and photographs that generate awareness of certain pressing issues.
